Halloween 2011 Zombie Nerd

One cool thing about being a makeup junkie... TONS of makeup on hand at all times. I spent two bucks on a tube of fake blood and using what I already had I quickly transformed myself into a last minute zombie to wear out tonight. Hooray for having excessive amounts of makeup on hand!

What I used..

Some redish eyeshadow that I got as a sample from Evil Shades on my eyes and all over my face in various spots. It worked out perfectly for what I wanted to do.

Tigi Bed Head Big Fat Fun Stick in black on my eyelids and all over my face to outline teeth ect..
Sugarpill Tako for the fake teeth.

Sugarpill Bulletproof on one eyebrow

A tube of "Vampire Blood" from Wal-Mart

A glue stick. I smooched up some chunks and stuck them to my rotten cheek under the make up to make my skin a little "chunky". Hey it's all I had on hand to work with!

Topped it off with some fake ponytails I have.

And that's pretty much it. Probably took about 20-30 minutes start to finish with the occasional blood touch up. So that was my costume this year.  I had fun and hope everyone else does too!

Evil Shades Cosmetics Sample Haul

While I like make up wherever it comes from, I'm really starting to prefer independent brands and have been buying from them a lot more then major brands and store brands lately.  My recent searches for more indie brands lead me to Evil Shades Cosmetics when someone mentioned the brand on a make up forum I read from time to time.

The website is adorable.  It's mascot is a cutie holding a skull who happens to have black and purple hair. A girl after my own heart. <3 <3 <3 I've mentioned my love of all things purple before right?

The website is set up well and is easy to navigate and find what you want. The pictures used for the products look like "real" pictures to me,  meaning they look like they were taken by an average person, were modeled on real people, and haven't been Photoshopped to death.  I really like that because I think it gives you a better indication of what the products really look like.  More to true to life if you know what I mean.

They offer most everything they make in three sizes.  Sample, Full size, and Pro Size.  The samples are only $1.25-$1.75 which I love because it's a great way to try a ton of colors without spending a ton of cash.  I went with that and ordered a few sample items to try out.

Here's my price breakdown..

Product : Quantity : Price
Hardcore lips- Deception
Size - Sample : 1 : 1.50
Deviant Lipstick - Stormy
Size - Sample : 1 : 1.50
Eyeshadow- Nightshade
Size - Sample : 1 : 1.25
LE Eyeshadow - Re-Animated
Size - Sample : 1 : 1.50

Subtotal : 5.75
Shipping : 4.00
TOTAL    : 9.75

I placed my order on October 10th and it arrived at my house on October 27th. So 17 days which isn't very fast in my opinion but it is an independent company so I don't think that slower shipping is that out the norm. I'm just used to instant (or really fast) gratification so I did hate waiting.  It came in a padded yellow envelope and the samples were placed in a cute little drawstring bag. They also threw in a few pixie sticks.  As a fat girl with a serious sweet tooth, I appreciate that little extra. It also came with a few business cards (Super Cute Business Cards), an extra sample I didn't order (I sure love free stuff), and a teeny little invoice with a hand signed "Thank You".  I really love personal touches like that because they are becoming less common these days.

The eyeshadow samples come in cute little plastic containers that are roughly the size of a quarter but a bit thicker. I think the amount of power included in these is pretty generous for $1.50 and if your like me, you can make that amount last for a really long time. I ordered the shades Nightshade and Re-animated. Re-animated came from a special Zombie collection. The free sample (red shadow pictured in baggie) was extremely generous and had a lot of product in it.

The sample of the lipstick "Stormy" from the deviant lipstick line was not so generous. It's about a one use size, maybe two if you stretch it out.

The sample of "Deception" from the Hardcore Lips Gloss line came in a cute teeny little tube.  Although it's small it's really cute.  I think you can get about 3 or 4 uses out of it with a brush.

I'm happy with my first impression of this brand.  I like the image they present and the personal touches.  They have several unique colors that I haven't seen anywhere else. The could improve a bit with ship time and lipstick sample size but overall I'm pretty happy and will be ordering more in the near future.

AHAVA Mineral Foot Cream Body Treat Lotion Review

I got this sample sized tube of AHAVA Dead Sea Laboratories Mineral Foot Cream in my October Birchbox. I threw it aside about a week ago and didn't think twice about it until I found it again sorting out a make up box last night and gave it a try. It's starting to get colder here in Ohio and with the colder weather every year I get really dry ankles and feet. Yay me right? I rarely if ever use lotions in the summer, but come fall I'm on the look out for any good lotions that will help keep my ankles from getting really scratchy or cracking on me. They get downright gross sometimes and it's a constant battle to keep them moisturized. I think this might be the lotion to help get my feet through the winter this year.

It comes out white and has a slightly lumpy texture.  The smell is alright. It's a clean smell and it's really light and not overpowering.

It absorbs quickly and doesn't feel oily or greasy like a lot of heavy duty lotions tend to.  You can feel a very slight  waxy coating after rubbing it in. I assume that's a protective barrier to help hold the moisture in.

I really like this stuff!  It just makes my skin feel so nice and soft. I used it on my elbows too!

---------------------------------------------------------

A little extra info...
Contains a lot of good ingredients and oils like Avocado, Sweet Almond, Tea Tree Leaf Oil, and Salicylic Acid.

It sells for $19 for 3.4 fl oz tube on the official website and on the Birchbox website. Since it was a Birchbox Box item shipping is free on the Birchbox website until the next box comes out.  I don't call that cheap by any means but it really is nice stuff and if your like me you can stretch out a tube of lotion for a really long time.

My Free Sample Mailbox Today

You might have noticed that I post a lot of offers for freebies and samples when I find them, and if I post them then I request them myself as well.  I do love my free crap, and especially beauty related free crap!  Everything you see pictured I got just today in the mail. Most of it came in the cute little make up bag from Target.  Every once in a while they post a sample on the Target website and the make up bag filled with goodies to try was one of them.  One of the best freebies I've gotten honestly.  The Olay, Biore, and Infusium came separate, but that still amount to 4 separate free sample packs in the same day. They usually come with great coupons too. Yea, I'm a crazy coupon lady too.

But anyways my whole point of this blog post besides showing off my goodies was to show that requesting samples online is worth the small amount of time and effort put into finding them and filling out the forms.  It's a great way to try a wide variety of health and beauty items without spending a dime. I've found so many brands and products that I've fallen in love with this way and hey, who doesn't like getting free stuff in the mail??

Free Perricone MD Skin Care Samples

This is the breakdown of what my box had this month...

Urban Decay Urban Bride Set

I recently got this box set from Urban Decay in the sale section.  It was marked down to $24 from the original $42 price tag.  It was intended as a bridesmaid gift and I but it's not like anything in it is wedding specific.  It came with a full size Eyeshadow Primer Potion which retails for $19 so the way I looked at it for $5 more, I got all sorts of extra product.

It comes all packed up in the cutest little box with purple flower lace designs and the only thing that indicates its a bridal set are the words "Urban Bride".  It was a lot bigger then I expected.

The only official full sized item is the Eyeshadow Primer Potion. If you haven't tried it, it's awesome stuff.  I have one that I have milked for 2 years now and it was time for a new one. These retail for $19 alone.

The other 5 products are considered travel size, but they are pretty damn big for travel sizes. This is what else it comes with...

Razor Sharp Ultra-Definition Finishing Powder.  This is a pretty decent size and the bottle is topped with a mirror.

Marshmallow Sparkling Lickable Body Powder.  This is really big for a travel size. I can't imagine how big the full size would be.  It smells so yummy too!

And last but not least a Midnight Cowboy Lip Junkie Lip Gloss.  I've been using this a few days and really like it so far.  It's really minty!

All in all a pretty cool set of make up. I look forward to trying all the stuff out and you can't beat the price for all you get.

Hard Candy Review Eye Candy Sparkle Cream Eyeshadow & Glitter Eyeliner in "Flashy"

Wal-Mart has in new Hard Candy Displays so I picked up a few small things including the new Eye Candy Sparkle Cream Eyeshadow in "Flashy".  It also came with a mini matching eyeliner pencil that's about half the size of normal for $5.

They had a few good colors and I resist going right for the purple like I normally do and went with the silver "Flashy". I've been trying to add a few good metallic's to my make up trunk and needed a silver.

It comes in a cute little container that makes a perfect circle when closed so it's easy to toss in a purse and closes secure enough that I don't think it would come open on it's own.

The backside has a handy little mirror. I wish all make up did.

I used a disposable sponge applicator to test it out, but I think it would have went on a bit smoother with a make up brush or even a finger.

On this swatch I put it on thick for the first swipe and lightly for the second. I went lighter then I thought I guess because it barely shows in the picture.

This is it alone on a otherwise naked eye (My middle daughters).  It doesn't go on evenly as you can see. You have to work and pat it on to fill in bare spots.

Here it is on top of a base of Sugarpill Bulletproof.  I prefer this to it alone.  I think it makes it more dramatic and helps to silver pop.

If you went ahead and complete this look with some nice black eyeliner and mascara and cleaned it up a bit it could be a really nice going out look. I didn't get too fancy because I just wanted to get a basic idea of how this shadow worked.

The eyeliner they include with it is really really light and barely visible.

I didn't like it at all.  It's pretty worthless to me. There is barely any glitter or pigment in it. I just gave it to my daughter who modeled her eye for me because it's so light and barely there that I don't mind her playing with it or wearing it in public.

This eyeshadow is alright. I'm not in love with it, but I could see myself using it once in awhile. Not the best thing I've seen come out of Hard Candy but it's usable. The liner is total poop and if it hadn't of been included with the eyeshadow I would never buy it alone.
